Fake It This Summer!
Clean Up
Keep your regular beauty regime up during the summer months. Just because we’re wearing a little less make-up does not mean we can be more casual with our cleansing routine. It is now advised to wear a moisturizer with an spf all year round, this should without fail be adhered to during summer. Prevention is, as always, better than cure.
Use an exfoliater once a week, especially if you are using fake tan on your face.
Even after a night out on the town and you’re just too tired to wash, tone and cleanse, you have no excuses with facial wipes. It’s not the same as cleansing properly but it is better than going to bed with a full face of make-up on.
Getting the fake flawless
Before applying fake tan prep your skin well. Wash, exfoliate and moisturize.
1. Wash the skin with a gentle cleanser,
2. Use a good exfoliator for your face, for the body, an exfoliating scrub or a good loofah or mittens with your regular shower wash will do the trick also.
3. When dry, liberally slather on your moisturizer, leave it to absorb into your skin for a minute or two and then apply your tan.
As we have all, at some point or another found out the hard way, the places to be extra careful when executing this fine body art are the hands, feet and knees.
The tell tale signs! We can cover up our feet and our knees but it’s not quite as easy to camouflage our hands for three days while we wait for the brown blobs and streaks to fade!
4. When applying your tan wear gloves. The best ones I have found are the surgical gloves, obtainable at most pharmacies.
5. When it comes to putting it on your hands continue the tan you have already applyed on your arm down the front of your hand. Don’t put the tan straight onto your hand.
6. Once you are satisfied that the rest of your body is streak free, lastly put a dollop of hand cream onto the back of your hand. On top of this put a half the amount of tan. Using the back of your hands rub the tan and hand cream in. Do not use the palm of your hands to rub it in, unless you are hoping to have orange palms!
Tan stains and drys quite quickly so washing with soap and water simply doesn’t work.
7. Finally, apply some hand cream to the palms of your hands and with the excess gently rub up the inside of your arm, eliminating any unnoticed streaks.
Leave aproxomately 20 to 30 minutes before putting on clothes.
Don’t apply tan if you’re going to the gym or doing anything that may involve perspiration, streak city…
Don’t get into bed straight after you’ve applied tan, you will only be tanning your sheets and leaving patches of tan on you!
If the dreaded occurs and you do end up with streaking! Lemon juice or nail varnish will help to diminish.
